Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Level 4

This apprenticeship has been designed to support experienced individuals working in the adult care sector to enhance their skills and knowledge and become a specialist.

If you are responsible as a lead in a team, working towards being a manager or interested in being a manager in the future, this apprenticeship is for you.

The Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Level 4 will guide, inspire and help you to support team members to make a positive differences to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges.

The apprenticeship is suitable for:

  • individuals working in a range of settings such as nursing homes, residential homes, support services, clinical healthcare, domiciliary care and day centres;
  • those have two years’ sector experience; and
  • individuals who have some level of management or supervising experience.

18 Months


About the programme

The apprenticeship is 18 months in total with a 15 month practical learning programme and then up to 3 months for the End Point Assessment.

We deliver throughout the year meaning you can start the programme when you want and when it meets your needs, rather than wait for a particular time in the year.

Throughout the apprenticeship you’ll learn new knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you mentor and support others. There’s the opportunity to specialise in topics that will help you to lead in areas such as care needs assessment, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and enablement and assistive technology.

Our team of expert adult care trainers will enhance and enrich the programme for you based on your needs and areas of interests.

The team will help, support and develop your knowledge and understanding so that you’re able to successfully complete the apprenticeship and progress in your career.

You’ll be helped every step of the way and will benefit from a variety of learning opportunities that are relevant to what you do by a dedicated expert trainer.

Is the apprenticeship for you?

You don’t need to have a Level 3 qualification to do this Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care but you should be in a lead role or have responsibility for activities such as supervising, team meetings and appraisals.

The programme helps prepare you to be a manager and provides a fantastic way to bridge the gap between a Level 3 and Level 5 apprenticeship. The apprenticeship provides a great stepping stone for you to pursue your career further.

It’s important that you get the opportunity to demonstrate and evidence your new found skills, knowledge and behaviours in your day to day activities.

If you don’t have Level 2 English and Maths already, we’ll help you to achieve this before reaching End Point Assessment. Our team of highly skilled specialist English and Maths Tutors can provide additional support if needed.

How you’ll learn

We have designed a flexible programme which includes:

• Assessment and induction
• Face-to-face sessions (or remote delivery)
• Regular 1-2-1 support (face-to-face and/or remote)
• Assignments
• Observations
• Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support (including information, advice and guidance)
• Specialist English and/or Maths support (if needed)
• End Point Assessment preparation and support, including Gateway Readiness Check and mock tests.

You will also record and track your learning progress through the OneFile e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey. OneFile is an industry leading and award winning online service which can be accessed 24/7 anywhere and through any device.
