Jane’s last role was working in distribution for the Terry Bloods Warehouse in Chesterton. Jane left her role when she had her daughter Louise who is now 19.

Jane had been searching for a job for four years until she was referred onto the Work Programme with Interserve Learning & Employment. by her Jobcentre Plus adviser. She was assigned to Interserve Learning & Employment.’s local delivery partner Stoke JET. She had been to interviews before but kept coming up against the same issue, that she “didn’t have enough work experience”, despite the fact that Jane had qualified in many business and office based courses at Newcastle-Under-Lyme college.

The JET team stepped in to help Jane with her search by training and mentoring her, helping her to write her CV, giving her one to one, hands on help with interview advice, CV techniques and building up Jane’s confidence thus helping her to be more attractive to employers and becoming “work-ready”.

A job opportunity arose via the Jet Business office – which focuses on the JET brokers working closely with North Staffordshire businesses and therefore able to identify recruitment opportunities.

The Store – launched on 29 September this year in the City Centre, is based in the old Post Office Building on Tontine Street. The opportunity came up for a receptionist based at The Store. Jane was ready for interview and ready for work. Following her interview with Steve Lovatt – The Store Manager, she was offered the job.

She said: “I’d been looking for a job for about four years. It was very disheartening to be repeatedly told that I didn’t have the right work experience even though I had qualifications. I felt like a second-class citizen because all I wanted to do was work. I was in shock when I got this job but it’s brilliant. This has given me my life back – Marie was designated as my personal JET advisor. The whole process was unbelievably helpful and Marie was brilliant and in contact with me daily – always going the extra mile to help me to find work, gain confidence and helped me to improve my skills”.

The Store is one of a growing network of centres across the country offering training leading to national qualifications and support for businesses.

Backed by TV shopping guru Mary Portas, it features conference facilities, two IT training suites and a mock shop. Its delivery partners are the National Skills Academy for Retail, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Stoke on Trent College and Jobcentre Plus.
