Hair and Barbering

Could your Hairdressing Salon or Barbers benefit from a trainee?

We’re working to create opportunities for young people looking to build a career in Hairdressing or Barbering. As part of this, we are actively seeking employers who would be willing to offer a placement to a trainee aged between 16-18, for 8 weeks, 3 days a week.

The latest government funded incentive for employers offers £1,000 for each traineeship learner they take on, with a maximum of 10 grants available per employer – so now is a great time to consider whether you could benefit.

A traineeship programme with us is designed and delivered by sector experts who truly understand what it’s like to start out in the Hairdressing or Barbering sector. They will teach your trainee fundamental subjects such as Health and Safety, Shampooing, Assisting with Reception Duties, Assisting with Colouring or Shaving and Professional Behaviours.

The aim of the traineeship course is to prepare the young person to take up an apprenticeship placement. We appreciate due to the current climate this is not always possible therefore once the traineeship finishes the 8 week programme, employers are not required to provide a job opportunity. However, they will need to offer either:

• An interview for a job role (if one is available); or
• Meaningful written feedback to help the trainee secure an apprenticeship or other employment.

To support the trainees, we would ask you to pay them £25 a week to cover the costs of travel to your placement and lunch for the 3 days.

So in summary, if you could support someone with little or no job history, to gain work experience and enter the employment market – we would love to hear from you!
