Less than 50 employees?
Recruit an apprentice for free! There will be no cost towards training an apprentice under 18 or aged 19-24 with an EHC plan.
More than 50 employees?
The government will pay 90% towards the apprenticeship training. You will pay a small 10% contribution.
A £1,000 payment will also be made to you, when taking on a 16-18 year old, or a 19-24 year old with an EHC plan.
What are your responsibilities?
Your responsibility is to support your apprentice in their new role and provide them with work-based learning.
You'll need to provide your apprentice with a contract of employment. Secondly, you must pay at least the minimum apprentice wage, depending on their age and level of learning, but you can always choose to pay more to reflect their valuable contribution to your business.
There is no limit to the amount of apprentices you employ, as long as you can sufficiently support them all.
The only training you will have to provide is the initial Health and Safety workplace training and any job-specific or mandatory training for the role. Our assessors will deliver further training and the qualification framework.
