Positive vibes guide for GCSE exam results day

If you’re a school leaver feeling the pressure this week, take a few steps toward a more zen state of mind with our guide to remaining positive during the exam results season.

Research what you love

No matter your results this summer, researching your options will help you take comfort in the fact that you’ll still be able to do something you love this September. Be that going to sixth form or college, an apprenticeship or a traineeship. There isn’t just one route into your dream job, putting in some time to look at the different ways of entering the field you’re interested in means that whatever the grade, you always have options.

A little help from your friends

The big revelation from the traditional envelope opening on results day is one well known for turning stomachs. Get by with a little help from your nearest and dearest by opening them together and having something to look forward to afterwards. This way you’ll be able to share this roller coaster ride with others and not be on your own.

Talk to your parents

Though they may not understand that you can’t double tap a photo on Instagram to make it bigger; parents know that feeling of uncertainty that waiting to find out your grades can give you and will be the most comforting people to speak to about the nerves you have. They’ll more than likely fill you with the confidence you need to brave the day with a smile.

Know that if things don’t go to plan, for better or worse, you’re not alone

If on the day your results aren’t what you expected and no longer match up with your plans, know that you’re not the only one. The Exam Results Helpline exists to support those who achieve grades higher or lower than expected, offering expert advice on careers, courses and more. You can reach the helpline on 0808 100 8000.

Good luck!
