Moving On Up – Sam’s Story of Personal Progression
Interserve Learning & Employment is a place where people can make their mark, have a voice and thrive; a company that truly makes a difference and continues to redefine the future for people and places across the UK. Samantha Smith’s progression story highlights how at Interserve we strive to retain what is our most important resource: our people.
Samantha initially joined Interserve Learning & Employment as a Marketing and Engagement Officer, after graduating from Nottingham Trent University. Her first role involved working on one of our fixed-term contracts, however after this contract came to an end we were keen to continue to invest in her and to retain the excellent skill set we had witnessed. Samantha had contributed greatly towards our Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) contract, offering impartial support to schools to promote apprenticeship awareness across the UK but when this temporary contract finished, we not only offered Samantha a permanent position, working for our central Marketing Communications team, but a place on our graduate development scheme too.
Here is what Samantha has to say, about her experience of Interserve as an employer: “I joined the company in early September 2015, on a contract which I knew was only set to last seven months. I was always aware that my time with Interserve could come to an end in March 2016, although I was fortunate enough for it to be extended by three months and therefore my role too. Regardless of the relative short-term nature of the role, it was a thoroughly enjoyable position, with such a supportive manager and great team to work within; I learned a lot. And what I did learn about the company meant I did not want to leave any time soon!
When the additional three months came to an end and the objectives of the contract had been successfully accomplished, I was asked to apply for a permanent role within the central marketing team as a Digital Marketing Executive. And here I am three months later, constantly learning and acquiring new skills.
Interserve has supported me with the training, support and guidance I have needed to progress over the past twelve months and I could not be more grateful for it. Not only this, I have also been enrolled onto the Talent Development Programme (graduate scheme) which will enable me to develop my skill set further over the next twelve months. I have an exciting time ahead of me, working with such a motivated team and having such strong support from my line manager; I couldn’t be happier!”
