Career curious young people from across the UK flocked to the Birmingham NEC this week to attend the World Skills Show, a national event held 17 – 19 November 2016.
The World Skills Show is held to demonstrate the array of options available to young people following secondary school, which they may have been unaware of prior to the event. The event also provides organisations such ours with a platform to reach out to young people, give advice and answer any questions they have about their next steps.
Six large halls at the NEC joined together to create a vast open space full to the brim with exciting talent, ranging from demonstrations of joinery, barbering, hairdressing, media make up, barista skills, butchery and many more. Alongside exhibitions of talent, there were plenty of organisations in attendance such as colleges, universities, employers and apprenticeship providers ready and willing to give their advice on the options available to young people following their school years.
Our stand was situated in the hospitality hall where a number of our friendly and approachable Careers Development Officers were on hand to offer their guidance. They were also accompanied by our popular CV Smoothie Bike, a human-powered bike blender that allowed those interested in apprenticeships to create their very own smoothie in just 45 seconds! Each attempt was recorded and the attendee who cycled the furthest in 45 seconds will win £50 Amazon vouchers. Not only were our cyclists partaking in some daily exercise, they were also ingesting some of their five-a-day for free, bargain!
For those that gave the cycling a miss, they relaxed and lounged in our deck chairs and took selfies using our life-size Instagram template. We were so impressed with the energy and enthusiasm of our attendees! For every young person that approached us and asked a question about apprenticeships, they were given a goodie bag filled with Interserve Learning & Employment treats such as a pair of earphones, a wristband, sunglasses and a pen.
Interserve Learning & Employment also held a seminar spot from 12pm-1pm and there wasn’t an empty seat in the house! An interactive presentation of the services provided was given by two of our most knowledgeable Careers Development Officers, who were met with questions from attentive members of the audience. This was a great way to disseminate our core values and services to a large number of people at once and the feedback from all who attended showed great interest.
There is still time for you to visit Interserve Learning & Employment’s stand at the World Skills Show this year, come down on Friday 18 November or Saturday 19 November for free to find out more about our services and to grab a smoothie. If you can’t make it, don’t hesitate to contact us on 0333 444 5055 for more information about our apprenticeships, traineeships and short courses.
